Learn Infant Massage Now!

How cute is this video?!

Remember when massaging your baby at home to pay attention to baby's tolerance level cues. Many babies begin to get fidgety and over-stimulated if massaged for too long and while many adults hold tension in the neck and shoulder region, babies tend to hold tension in their hips.

Numerous studies have found that massage plays a significant role in:
*promoting the proper growth and healthy development of infants
*stimulates the nerves
*increases blood flow
*strengthens the immune system
*Can relieve a host of childhood complaints from colic to constipation.
*A daily rubdown on baby’s belly helps work out gas and regulates digestion
*Massaging the chest may ease congestion
*Gently stroking an infant’s face can improve her ability to suck
*Most of all, massage is good for parent-child bonding.

The best time to massage your baby is at bathtime or bedtime – massaged babies fall asleep right away, so it’s better not to massage immediately after a feeding or when a baby is hungry.

For more parent-child bonding consider booking a "Two Peas In A Pod" Massage for you and baby at Zen Soul Spa - Massage & Acupuncture in Brooklyn or arrange for a therapist to come to you and baby in the comfort of your own home.

How cute was that? I would love to massage Amal; however, I think that I would be worried about hurting him. Is there anything that I should know before I attempt this on my baby? It seems very straightforward on the video, but I want to make sure that absolutely nothing will go wrong.

Hey Tam! It's great you want to bond with Amal in this way. I suggest you start off small. After you bathe him use the time while applying lotion or oil to gently stretch out his little legs and rub his feet for 2-3 minutes. Pay attention to how he responds and go with it. My first could not stand receiving massage for too long when he was an infant - he'd begin to get really fidgety after 2 minutes instead of relaxed but he began loving the massages for ten minute stretches starting at age 3 and now at 6 he can easily receive a 30 minute massage wanting more time even =).

So start off with just massaging Amal's legs and feet for a short time and go from there, he'll let you know what works for him and what doesn't - thanks for writing in.

It's touch therapy at its finest. I know that babies have delicate bodies, and any wrong action can injure the fragile frame of an infant. Your video made it clear so. Thank you very much for that!
